Sydney Modern Project (Art Gallery NSW)

The Naala Badu building has transformed the Art Gallery of NSW into a global art museum for a global city – a vital destination with new and expanded spaces for art, performance and film along with places for people to learn and participate in cultural programs.

It includes a covered entry plaza, exhibition spaces, retail shop, food and beverage facilities, visitor amenities, art research and education spaces, multipurpose space, new publicly accessible roof terraces, staff offices and back of house facilities with loading, service and storage areas and with extensive landscaping surrounding the building and site linkages. Landscape works for the public domain area between the new building and the existing Art Gallery NSW heritage building inclusive of new Art Garden, Sculpture Terrace and the Art Gallery Road and Domain entry interface area.

Group DLA were engaged to provide Building Code of Australia (BCA) consultancy throughout the design development phases of the project, including the provision of certification on behalf of the Crown (Formerly Section 109R of the EP&A Act). Our involvement also extends to the assessment of extensive Fire Engineering, Ergonomics and DDA Accessibility Performance Solutions, including liaison with Fire Rescue NSW (FRNSW) & Local Authorities.
