SMART Infrastructure Facility

The SMART Infrastructure Facility is one of the largest infrastructure research facilities in the world. The four-storey, $62 million, 12,000m2 building was designed to accommodate large scale research teams, including 200 higher degree research students. Consisting of 30 specialist research and education laboratories, the building enables focus on a wide range of infrastructure services such as electricity, energy, water, gas, transport, rail and road. In addition, the facility also includes a number of seminar and small conference facilities for use by industry, government and visiting scholars.

The innovative design achieves a 4 Star Green Star rating, via number of sustainable features, including xeriscape landscaping, electrical sub-metering and automated lighting, secure bike storage facilities, close proximity to public transport services and rainwater harvesting Group DLA were engaged as the appointed Accredited Certifier / Principal Certifying Authority (PCA), responsible for issue of Part 4A Construction and Occupation Certificates for the project on the main campus of the University of Wollongong.
